Nobody enjoys calling about a garage door, and almost nobody knows what it should cost. That asymmetry is exactly why the trade has a reputation problem. So here is our actual price book, in public, with the reasons behind each range.

Why the ranges are as wide as they are
Four things move a price inside its range, and none of them are arbitrary.
- Door weight. A 16x7 insulated steel door can weigh 180 pounds; the same opening in full-view aluminium and glass can be well over 300. Heavier door means heavier spring, heavier cable and more labour.
- Access. Low headroom, high-lift track, and alley-entry garages in West U or the Heights take longer and sometimes need non-standard hardware.
- What else is wrong. A broken spring on a door with rusted-through bottom brackets is two repairs. We show you the rust before quoting it.
- Time of day. After-hours emergency dispatch carries a premium, quoted on the phone before we roll.
Three quotes that should make you hang up
"$39 service call, we'll price it there." The $39 gets a salesperson into your garage. The number that follows is usually two to three times a fair price, and the pitch depends on you feeling committed because they are already standing there.
"You need a whole new door." Sometimes true. But if you called about a broken spring and the answer is a $2,400 door, ask what specifically is wrong with the sections. A sound door with a broken spring is a $380 repair.
"We can only replace one spring." Both springs were installed on the same day and have taken the same number of cycles. Replacing one guarantees a second service call, and it leaves the door unbalanced in the meantime — which then kills the opener.
What we charge for showing up
$59 for a full diagnosis and a written quote, credited against the repair if you go ahead. Almost everybody goes ahead, so almost nobody pays it twice. We would rather charge a fair diagnostic fee than pretend a truck roll is free and make it up on the invoice.
Repair or replace?
A rule that holds up well: if the sections are sound and the repair costs less than a third of a new door, repair it. Once you are looking at multiple cracked sections, a rusted-through bottom panel, or a twenty-five-year-old door on its second set of springs, replacement is usually the better spend — and in a windstorm county it is a chance to get a rated door in.
